Raiders Linked to Star QB as Geno Smith Replacement
The Geno Smith era with the Las Vegas Raiders has been disastrous to say the least. Head coach Pete Carroll attempted to reignite the magic the two had with the

Kyler Murray’s time with the Arizona Cardinals could be nearing its end. If the Cardinals decide it’s time to hit the reset button and go in a different direction, the 28-year-old could be made available.
Sullivan believes that the Raiders would be an ideal landing spot for Murray, considering that if Carroll stays on as head coach, the front office will likely prioritize a signal caller that can help them win now over drafting and developing a quarterback.
“I think he could fit because you look at Geno Smith, you’d say, ‘Well, they just traded for Geno Smith [and] they signed him to an extension,’” Sullivan said on the November 8 edition of “CBS Sports HQ.”
“It’s really not that cumbersome, unlike the Tua Tagovailoa situation. You can kind of move off of Geno Smith if you want to. And at the time when the Las Vegas Raiders traded for Geno Smith, it was not a move where we looked at them and said they’re suddenly Super Bowl contenders.”
Does Kyler Murray to the Raiders Make Sense?
If there’s any coach in the NFL who can get the most out of an undersized quarterback, it’s Carroll, since he won a Super Bowl with Russell Wilson. As a result, Sullivan believes that the Cardinals’ star makes sense in Las Vegas.
“Kyler Murray makes sense,” Sullivan added. “He’s a younger player and would give them a higher ceiling, especially considering the investments made on offense in recent years with Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty out of the backfield.
“Pete Carroll is the head coach, and while he may look it, he’s no spring chicken—one of the oldest head coaches in the NFL. He’s not there for a rebuild or to draft and develop a quarterback over three to five years. He wants to contend for the playoffs as early as 2026, which means bringing in a veteran. They tried it with Geno Smith, which didn’t work out, and now they might try their luck with Kyler Murray.”
Will Pete Carroll Survive Year 1 as Raiders Coach?
While Murray heading to the Raiders would be a significant upgrade over Smith and give the Cardinals quarterback a fresh start, the question is whether Carroll will remain the head coach.
FOX Sports Radio’s Rob Parker believes that the Raiders should hit the reset button and fire the 74-year-old.
“If I’m the Raiders, Mark Davis, there [are] two things I’m doing in the offseason,” Park said on the November 7 edition of
“I’m sending him to a home care facility with some money. Thank you, Pete, very much. But there’s no way I’m going forward. This isn’t like other aspects of the team. The quarterback just really played poorly this year, and we could see everything. This team is awful. Just awful.”
Huge Dan Campbell adjustment just got the best seal of approval possible

Jared Goff hasn't necessarily had his best start to the 2025 season for the Detroit Lions.
Sure, he hasn't been a pick machine, nor has he fumbled much. He's been as solid as you can ask him to be given the circumstances surrounding the teams' offensive line. But, the explosiveness that portended a possible MVP run from Goff was tamped down significantly for multiple weeks after the Lions' big win over the Chicago Bears in Week 2.
That heel turn, which has been exacerbated by a tough schedule and tough pass rushing units almost every week, was finally stopped in Week 10. Goff saw one of his best games of the season unfold against the Washington Commanders, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns.
That success was, possibly, due to the fact that a glasses-wearing Dan Campbell had taken over play calling from John Morton for this game, leading to a viewing experience that was less about pulling your hair out and more about jumping out of your seat. And, most importantly, Goff was loving it.
Jared Goff didn’t deny that Dan Campbell was calling plays just now.

Goff gives seal of approval as Lions go back to Campbell's play calling in Week 10
Goff was far more poised today, which was a huge change from Week 9 against a tough nosed Minnesota Vikings defensive line. While the Commanders' defensive line is banged up beyond belief, it was still nice to see him bounce back with some solid protection.
In addition to the pass protection, it was obvious that Goff was a lot more locked in with his receivers. Those receivers were constantly in motion, with Jameson Williams the biggest beneficiary of that system. Williams had a team-high 119 receiving yards and one touchdown thanks to how quickly Goff was operating from the pocket, which is not something we've seen in recent weeks.

The lack of involvement for Williams, in addition to how hard it's been to get either passing or rushing going for Detroit the last few weeks leading into this game, is why a switch at play-caller doesn't seem surprising.
Whether Campbell goes back to Morton for the Lions' next huge game against the Philadelphia Eagles during Sunday Night Football is a different story, and another huge point of conflict for Campbell to handle.
