Huge Dan Campbell adjustment just got the best seal of approval possible
Jared Goff hasn't necessarily had his best start to the 2025 season for the Detroit Lions.
Sure, he hasn't been a pick machine, nor has he fumbled much. He's been as solid as you can ask him to be given the circumstances surrounding the teams' offensive line. But, the explosiveness that portended a possible MVP run from Goff was tamped down significantly for multiple weeks after the Lions' big win over the Chicago Bears in Week 2.
That heel turn, which has been exacerbated by a tough schedule and tough pass rushing units almost every week, was finally stopped in Week 10. Goff saw one of his best games of the season unfold against the Washington Commanders, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns.
That success was, possibly, due to the fact that a glasses-wearing Dan Campbell had taken over play calling from John Morton for this game, leading to a viewing experience that was less about pulling your hair out and more about jumping out of your seat. And, most importantly, Goff was loving it.
Jared Goff didn’t deny that Dan Campbell was calling plays just now.

Goff gives seal of approval as Lions go back to Campbell's play calling in Week 10
Goff was far more poised today, which was a huge change from Week 9 against a tough nosed Minnesota Vikings defensive line. While the Commanders' defensive line is banged up beyond belief, it was still nice to see him bounce back with some solid protection.
In addition to the pass protection, it was obvious that Goff was a lot more locked in with his receivers. Those receivers were constantly in motion, with Jameson Williams the biggest beneficiary of that system. Williams had a team-high 119 receiving yards and one touchdown thanks to how quickly Goff was operating from the pocket, which is not something we've seen in recent weeks.

The lack of involvement for Williams, in addition to how hard it's been to get either passing or rushing going for Detroit the last few weeks leading into this game, is why a switch at play-caller doesn't seem surprising.
Whether Campbell goes back to Morton for the Lions' next huge game against the Philadelphia Eagles during Sunday Night Football is a different story, and another huge point of conflict for Campbell to handle.
Seahawks Block Chiefs’ Trade for Rising Star Boye Mafe Ahead of Deadline

The Seattle Seahawks reportedly shut down a last‑minute trade with the Kansas City Chiefs that would have sent rising edge rusher Boye Mafe to Kansas City, a move the Chiefs hoped would bolster their pass rush.
The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly in serious talks to acquire Boye Mafe ahead of the NFL trade deadline, with the goal of adding more pressure to their defensive line. The Chiefs had been eyeing Mafe as a potential game-changer, believing his explosiveness could help their pass rush. However, the Seahawks ultimately decided to hold on to the second‑year edge rusher, preventing what could have been a significant deal for both teams.
The decision was a bold move for the Seahawks, signaling their confidence in Mafe’s development and their plans to keep building around their young defensive core. For the Chiefs, it represents a missed opportunity to add an emerging talent to their defense, which has struggled at times to apply consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
“At the end of the day, I’m just focused on what I can control,” Mafe said after hearing about the trade talks. “I want to help this team win, and I’m glad they’re keeping me here. Whatever happens, I’m ready to put everything I have into helping my teammates. Seattle is where I want to be, and I’m here to make plays.”
Mafe’s commitment to the Seahawks is clear. His focus on his role with the team and his desire to keep improving show that, despite the trade rumors, he is determined to succeed in Seattle and contribute to the team’s defense.
The near‑deal highlights the high value the Chiefs placed on Mafe, and the Seahawks’ decision to keep him reflects their belief in his potential. Now, as the season progresses, Mafe’s performance will be under the microscope, with the defense counting on him to take the next step as a pass rusher. The trade deadline may be over, but Mafe’s future in Seattle is just beginning.
