DeMarcus Lawrence's Revelation Will Earn Him Even More Love from Seahawks Fans

The Seattle Seahawks have a solid edge rusher group in 2025, but there are huge risks with the unit, too. Uchenna Nwosu could still miss the beginning of the regular season after having offseason knee surgery, for instance. Free agent addition DeMarcus Lawrence has some health concerns, too.
Lawrence is 33 years old and played in only four games last season with the Dallas Cowboys. He missed nine games in 2021. He either stays healthy for a full season or misses most of it. Currently, the edge rusher is healthy, and hopefully, he will stay that way.
Assuming he does, Lawrence should be a perfect fit within head coach Mike Macdonald's scheme. He can play the run well, get good quarterback pressure, and should play the same kind of role that Jadeveon Clowney played with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 when Macdonald was the defensive coordinator.
DeMarcus Lawrence has the perfect reasons for signing with the Seattle Seahawks
This past offseason, Lawrence signed with the Seahawks for three years and a maximum of $32.5 million. He is unlikely to play the full contract because he would be 36 in the final year. Maybe he gets there, but the deal is structured in a way where Seattle could move on a year one as the contract has no guaranteed money in years two and three.
Still, Lawrence could have a huge impact on Seattle's defense, both on the field and in the locker room, and he will probably be a fan-favorite for however long he stays with the Seahawks. He gave 12s another reason to like him during a recent interview on The Pivot Podcast.
At the same time, he might have given Washington Commanders fans a reason to dislike him even more. He was probably already not beloved by Commanders fans, as Lawrence had played his entire 11-year career with Washington's biggest rival, the Cowboys.
Lawrence said, "(My family was) like, 'That's a championship contender team.' Me, personally, I'm not no bandwagon guy. I'm not going to sit here and jump on a team because y'all have a good opportunity to go to the championship. It's more of, what am I needed for? If you already got that type of team, y'all don't need me. It's all about me bringing my attitude, my personality to a team to help us get where we need to be."
Instead of going to the Commanders, a team that thinks it might have championship hopes but might not, Lawrence chose to sign with the Seattle Seahawks to help elevate the team because of his leadership qualities as much as his production. That is a coach's dream.
Third-year edge rusher Derick Hall has raved about DeMarcus Lawrence's presence in the locker room already. Hall is learning from the four-time Pro Bowl veteran. Lawrence is the rising tide that is going to raise all ships for the Seahawks.
