Steelers confirm horrible injury news
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers defeated the New York Jets on Sunday in Rodgers’ first start of his Pittsburgh tenure. The back-and-forth contest was sealed by the Steelers’ defense after kicker Chris Boswell nailed a go-ahead 60-yard field goal in the final minutes of regulation.
Unfortunately, that same defense will be short-handed in Pittsburgh’s upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
“Steelers HC Mike Tomlin announced updated game statuses for injured players as the team prepares for their home opener against the #Seahawks. Rookie DT Derrick Harmon (knee), S DeShon Elliott (knee) and LB Malik Harrison (knee) are all OUT this week. Tomlin is optimistic CB Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring) and OLB Nick Herbig (hamstring) will play on Sunday,” reported Steelers Update on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Take whoever’s running the ball over 150 this week,” one fan said of the Seahawks’ rushing attack against the Steelers short handed defense.

“It’s been like 5-6 weeks for Herbig. Wtf. Man up,” another fan added.
“Demon back,” someone else added about Nick Herbig’s potential return.
If the Steelers can keep up their offensive play and allow the defense to get fully healthy, there’s no reason they can’t bring their drought of playoff wins to an end this season.
The LA Rams Have One Of The NFL’s Most Dominant Defenders, And It’s Not Who You Expect

Ahkello Witherspoon is playing like the LA Rams ‘ best corner, and it is not loud enough yet. Jared Verse and Kobie Turner get all the love, and rightfully so, but since taking back CB1, Witherspoon has put top wideouts in a box and kept the ball in front.
Our friend, Jake Ellenbogen, compiled the results of the receivers whom Ahkello Witherspoon has covered every week below; season stat lines are from Pro Football Reference.
Nico Collins – 1 REC, 4 YDS
AJ Brown – 1 REC, 5 YDS

LA Rams CB Ahkello Witherspoon Has Been Dominant
That is 12 matchups, 18 grabs, 198 yards total. Roughly 1.5 catches and 16.5 yards allowed per game with one score. For a defense that wants to live in big-nickel and let the rush cook, that is premium value on the boundary.

Production snapshot, per Pro Football Reference.
- 2023: 52 tackles (43 solo), 9 PD, 3 INT, 6 TFL
- 2024: 31 tackles (25 solo), 6 PD, 0 INT, 2 TFL
- 2025: 2 tackles through Week 1
The tape matches the numbers. Witherspoon wins by staying square in press, taking inside leverage on breakers, and playing through the pocket late. He trusts the safety help over the top, which lets him squeeze windows and force quarterbacks to their second read.
Downstream effect: longer routes for Jared Verse and Byron Young to hit home, fewer freebies on third down.
If this run continues, the shutdown label stops being a discussion and becomes the scouting report.
