Giants Trade Idea Ships Out Former First-Round Pick for Cam Skattebo Replacement
Whenever something seems to start going right for the New York Giants, the other shoe drops.
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has been a revelation for the franchise since being inserted as the starter in Week 4, but the Giants have been losing skill position players on a semi-weekly basis.
First, it was star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL in the Week 4 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Most recently, rookie sensation Cam Skattebo suffered a fractured ankle in New York’s Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
With all of these losses and the trade deadline looming, the Giants must make it their No. 1 priority to surround their rookie quarterback with offensive weapons.
Otherwise, they risk negatively impacting his development, like so many other young signal callers suffer from.
Giants Trade Proposal Lands Panthers’ Chuba Hubbard
In a trade idea first proposed by Newsweek’s Max Dible, the New York Giants could ship edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux to the Carolina Panthers for running back Chuba Hubbard.
With Skattebo out for the season and potentially the start of 2026, the Giants could go out and get a starting-caliber running back by parting ways with a former first-round draft pick who may be expendable.
“With the NFL trade deadline just days away (Nov. 4), New York has an abundance of pass-rushers, and it could turn one of them into a high-profile running back to fill the void Scattebo left in the offensive backfield,” wrote Dible.
“The Carolina Panthers have gotten a surprise year out of running back Rico Dowdle, which renders Hubbard tradable, and could also use an edge-rusher after trading Burns to the Giants in 2024.”
Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy, who are filling in for the injured Skattebo, were not incredibly productive in their first extended action since the injury.
On Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Singletary carried the ball eight times for 43 yards while Tracy received five carries for 18 yards.
Dart was the Giants’ leading rusher with 56 yards.
Landing Hubbard, while at the cost of Thibodeaux, would provide a boost to New York’s ground game.
The Giants’ fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft is a solid player, but with Brian Burns, the team’s clear best pass rusher, and Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in this past year’s draft, on the roster, New York won’t be able to keep all three long-term.
With Thibodeaux due up for a contract extension, it makes sense why he’s the odd man out.
Would the Panthers Part Ways with Chuba Hubbard?
Hubbard broke out for the Carolina Panthers last season, totaling 1195 yards on 250 carries, scoring 11 total touchdowns.
But injuries have caused him to miss some time in 2025, leading to the emergence of Rico Dowdle as Carolina’s lead back.
In nine games this season and only three starts, Dowdle is third in the NFL in rushing with 735 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
With the former Dallas Cowboy exploding onto the scene, similarly to the Giants situation, Hubbard is expendable and could allow the Panthers to improve their roster in other areas.
Carolina is a bottom-five team in terms of total sacks this season, with only 14 in nine games. Adding Thibodeaux to their defensive line could remedy that.
The former Oregon Duck only has 2.5 sacks so far this season, but has been a productive edge rusher throughout his career.
In what would be a win-win trade for both sides, it’s something each team should consider with the trade deadline rapidly approaching.
Dodgers insider throws cold water on potential Kyle Tucker signing over self-inflicted roadblock

The offseason is quickly approaching after the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. One big name to watch this offseason is Kyle Tucker, who is expected to command a massive paycheck.

“Tucker is expected to be the highest paid free agent in this class. Most analysts believe he will get somewhere between $500 million and $650 million based on the recent contracts of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with the Blue Jays ($500 million) and Juan Soto with the Mets ($765 million). Tucker can impact a game in so many ways with his five tools: hitting, power, defense, arm strength and speed. He has made four straight All-Star teams and is putting together another strong season,” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden wrote.
Lately, the Dodgers have emerged as one of the favorites to sign Tucker this offseason. However, there could be factors that prevent him from joining Los Angeles.
“The only way I see Dodgers landing Kyle Tucker is if he signs an Alex Bregman type contract (3 yr/$120M) with opt outs. With the 2027 season in question, tough to imagine he'd want to do that unless his market is not there this offseason and the Dodgers are too enticing,” Dodgers writer Blake Harris wrote.
Adding to the uncertainty is the question of MLB salary cap space, which has been a concern due to the Dodgers’ high payroll.
“Yet, there are plenty of teams leaguewide that will look at the Dodgers’ recent spending, shrug their shoulders, and not even consider following in their footsteps. Not only did the Dodgers’ $240 million payroll lead baseball, but they spent over $200 million more than three teams: the Pittsburgh Pirates ($31.1 million), Baltimore Orioles ($25.4 million), and Miami Marlins ($22.3 million). Only 17 of the league’s 30 teams fielded at least an $80 million payroll, a jarring and concerning sight ahead of a potential lockout following the 2026 season,” FanSided’s Jake Elman wrote.
The Dodgers’ tendency to go all out each offseason could influence Tucker to look elsewhere this year. While nothing is certain, that concern is undoubtedly on the minds of free agents.
Tucker will be an intriguing player to watch as the winter unfolds. If a potential lockout becomes a concern, the Dodgers could miss out on this top available free agent.
