Dodgers Blockbuster? Ketel Marte Trade Buzz Heating Up After Shocking News
Recently, rumors have emerged that Arizona Diamondbacks superstar second baseman Ketel Marte could be traded in the coming months following a bit of background drama this season.
With Marte potentially on the trade block, it seems like every other team in baseball would be in the sweepstakes to land him. The star is widely regarded as the best second baseman in the game.
FanSided's Christopher Kline recently suggested the Los Angeles Dodgers could be a landing spot in a rare intra-division blockbuster for Marte.
"The Dodgers also, somehow, have the best farm system in baseball, per MLB Pipeline," Kline wrote. "While it could benefit L.A. to keep its prospect pool deep in order to build sustainably around an older core, we know the Dodgers will always find ways to restock and replenish. So yes, we need to monitor the Dodgers as a viable landing spot for Marte, even if the Diamondbacks are sure to resist overtures from a division rival. Value is value, and there's a world in which the Dodgers are making the best offer."
While this deal would make a lot of sense for the dominant Dodgers, it would make next to zero sense for the Diamondbacks to trade their superstar to such a loaded division rival.
Intra-division trades happen, though they're rare, but it's almost unheard of to trade an All-Star to the best team in the division. This kind of deal would make the gap bigger between Arizona and Los Angeles.
Although the Dodgers could offer a great return of prospects, there's almost a zero percent chance the Diamondbacks would entertain this idea.
