Commanders Trade Pitch Lands $56 Million Pro Bowler
NFL.
offenses have evolved to the point where having 2 elite tight ends isn’t something that should hold back a team, but instead enhance it.
For a team that needs help on offense and is comfortable enough in its own skin to adapt to change, the Washington Commanders could probably incorporate multiple tight ends into their offense and not only continue to win games, but thrive.
That’s why CBS Sports NFL reporter Cody Benjamin thinks the Commanders should try and pull off a trade for Baltimore Ravens tight end and 3-time Pro Bowler Mark Andrews ahead of the November 4 NFL trade deadline.
The Ravens, who were preseason Super Bowl favorites, might be just a few weeks from turning from buyers into sellers at the trade deadline after they started the season 1-5.
“We don’t believe John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens are interested in completely punting on the rest of the 2025 season, even with the AFC contender deflated at 1-5,” Benjamin wrote on October 15. “But Andrews is aging (30) and Isaiah Likely is already onboard as a longer-term option at tight end, so it’s possible the Ravens could try to get something for the Pro Bowler while they can. Washington can’t quite stay healthy out wide, and Andrews has enough left in the tank to form a grizzled but proven 1-2 punch with Zach Ertz. You can bet Jayden Daniels would enjoy feeding him.”
What Andrews Might Cost Commanders in Trade
The Commanders should not give up more than a 2026 fourth round pick for Andrews straight up, and might even turn that into a 2026 fifth round pick if they’re willing to toss in second year tight end Ben Sinnott or veteran tight end John Bates.
The biggest hurdle to consider with Andrews is in terms of salary, but even that shouldn’t be prohibitive. He’s due approximately $11 million in salary in 2025 in the final season of a 4-year, $56 million contract extension, meaning the Commanders would probably only be on the hook for about $5.5 million of that money.
Andrews’ Career Defining Moment in Playoffs
It’s not a stretch to say Andrews is still living in the wake of a career defining moment in last year’s postseason.
Andrews had been one of the NFL’s elite tight ends for most of the last decade with his 3 Pro Bowls and an NFL All-Pro nod in 2021, when he had 107 receptions for 1,361 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Those accomplishments have mostly been forgotten because of how last season ended.
In an AFC Divisional Round loss to the Buffalo Bills, Andrews not only lost a fumble in the fourth quarter that set up a score, he dropped an easy catch on a 2-point conversion that would have tied the game with 1:33 left in the game.
“Even though the shock and disappointment are unlike anything I’ve felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me,” Andrews wrote on Instagram a few days after the drop against the Bills. “I promise that this adversity will only make me stronger and fuel us as we move forward.”
