Chicago Voice Crushes Caleb Williams Ahead of Bears Week 2 Preseason Game
Who can be upset with Chicago Bears fans who are worried about Caleb Williams? The fact is that the Bears have faced numerous challenges throughout their history, and fans simply want to win.
Whether that comes with a Super Bowl ring, winning the division, or just getting to 10 wins this year, the fan base is desperate for success, and it’s tough to blame them.
However, reports have indicated that their former No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams, hasn’t looked great in training camp. Many in Chicago are starting to worry about it, including Lou Canellis of 670 The Score, who went as far as saying that there’s pressure on Williams to perform in the Bears’ Week 2 preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
“Hell, yeah, there’s pressure on Caleb Williams,” Canellis said. “Yeah, get it right. You’re supposed to be a generational quarterback. Get it right. I shouldn’t be watching Tyson Bagent, all right, out of Sheppard College in his third season, handling this brand new offense more effectively… Caleb Williams, no more Snap issues. Fire out of the huddle confidently. Feel good about the play that’s called…
“They’ve thrown a lot to Caleb to learn,” Canellis added. “The install is in. Peel back, see what the guy does best. Do I think he plays against Buffalo? Absolutely. Do I think if he plays poorly against Buffalo, he’ll play against Kansas City? No chance. Because if you’re not playing [Joe] Thuney and [Jonah] Jackson and [Drew] Dalman up front, you’re not going to risk the health of No. 18.”
Are the Caleb Williams Concerns Premature?
To say that there’s pressure in a preseason game is a bit extreme, even if the Chicago Bears are begging for success.
Frankly, Williams can go out for the Bears on Sunday and throw for 900 yards, but if he doesn’t do anything significant in the regular season, no one will remember what he did in August.
Bears Teammate Backs Caleb Williams Despite Concerns
Despite some concerning signs coming out of Chicago Bears camp about how their second-year quarterback looks, others have suggested that isn’t the case. Bears offensive lineman Jonah Jackson says Williams is figuring things out and looks strong in Ben Johnson’s new offense.
“I think he’s been on his stuff since Day 1,” said Jackson, per Gene Chamberlain of SI. “I didn’t get to see him as a rookie, so I don’t know, but I feel like he’s … I’ve been around veteran quarterbacks my entire career, and he has the same way about himself, like these guys.
“He carries himself, he’s a good leader, guys respect him, and you know, having a new offense is definitely something to adjust to, but I feel like he’s doing great.”
Johnson’s new scheme is also something Bears fans have to consider. It isn’t easy to learn an entire new offense, and with the disaster of an offense the Bears have had in recent years, there’s plenty to learn for Williams and other players on the roster, which could take a few weeks.
