BREAKING NEWS: CLEVELAND BROWNS CUT LUKE FLORIEA WITH INJURY SETTLEMENT BUT RETURN COULD BE IN THE CARDS 🚨

Every training camp, there’s always a player or two who comes out of nowhere and impresses. More often than not, it’s an undrafted free agent — and that’s once again been the case for the Cleveland Browns this August.

Following the draft, the Browns brought in a hometown kid of sorts: former Kent State and Mentor High School standout Luke Floriea.

Floriea has been a standout wide receiver in camp and even made a spectacular one-handed grab 30 yards downfield against the Carolina Panthers in the first preseason game. Unfortunately, that same play resulted in a hamstring injury, which ultimately led to him no longer being on the team.

Luke Floriea could be back with the Browns after being cut

On Wednesday, news broke that the Browns were releasing Floriea from injured reserve with an injury settlement — the first big step toward a possible return. Cleveland had placed Floriea on waivers earlier in the week, after which he rejoined the practice squad. With the injury settlement now reached, the Browns have paid him for the protected number of weeks he’ll be sidelined.

Floriea, a 5-foot-8 wideout, catches everything thrown his way and has good burst once the ball is in his hands. The undrafted rookie from Kent State also offers value as a kick returner.

Cleveland had been in a position where Floriea had a legitimate shot at making the roster as wide receiver depth. I’d be surprised if his time with the Browns is truly over — it wouldn’t be shocking to see him back with the team sometime in September or October.
