The New York Yankees have been forced to head back to the drawing board this offseason after coming up short once again in the postseason. Despite putting together another strong regular season campaign, the Yankees were eliminated in the ALDS after losing to their American League East rival, the Toronto Blue Jays, in four games.
In what is becoming a yearly tradition of sorts, fans are calling for the team to fire manager Aaron Boone after New York’s latest playoff defeat, but once again, the team appears set to stick with him. However, changes are still set to be made, as the team recently announced a pair of major moves involving members of Boone’s coaching staff ahead of the new season.
Yankees Not Re-Signing Two Members of Aaron Boone’s Coaching Staff
Boone took over as the Yankees manager in 2018, and since then, the story every season has largely been the same. New York has had no trouble winning in the regular season, but winning in the playoffs has been a struggle. Boone has just a 25-27 playoff record during his time in charge of the team, which is simply not good enough considering all the regular-season success the team has been enjoying.
In 2024, Boone finally managed to get the Yanks to the World Series, but they were quickly defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. In 2025, the Yankees didn’t come close to making that sort of run, despite posting the exact same record in the regular season for the second year in a row. Simply put, the sky-high expectations for the team were not met.
Despite the lack of playoff success, Boone has continued to hold onto his job with each passing year. The same can’t be said for a couple of members of his coaching staff, though, as New York is looking to make smaller changes around the edges of Boone’s staff, rather than just firing him. As a result, the team announced that bullpen coach Mike Harkey and infield/first base coach Travis Chapman will not be returning to the team for the 2026 campaign.
“Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman confirmed several previously reported changes to the Yankees’ coaching staff on Thursday, acknowledging that longtime bullpen coach Mike Harkey and infield/first base coach Travis Chapman will not return,” Gary Phillips of “New York Daily News” reported. “Boone added that the Yankees are exploring different roles for assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler, who will be replaced by Jake Hirst.”
Yankees Need a Big Offseason After Latest Postseason Woes

It remains to be seen how long Boone can hold onto his job without delivering a title to the Yankees, but for the time being, the team is committed to him. That means it’s on general manager Brian Cashman and the front office to do what they can to upgrade their roster over the offseason in an effort to give Boone the best possible chance at succeeding.
Chances are, these moves alone won’t win New York a championship, but it’s a start to what figures to be a wildly important offseason. And in a sense, it’s foreshadowing for Boone that if he can’t get this team over the hump soon, bigger changes involving his own future with the Yankees could be on the horizon.
Raiders’ Latest Debacle Ranked Among Worst Since Move to Las Vegas
Raiders coach Pete Carroll said Monday the bye week will be spent working injured players back into the lineup and analyzing what has gone wrong for a team that had tried to foster a culture of expectations.
They will do it on the heels of one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history, when they failed to gain 100 yards in a 31-0 beatdown in Kansas City on Sunday that could have been a lot worse.
One issue was the offense was missing its top two pass catchers in wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (knee, toe) and tight end Brock Bowers (knee).
Carroll hopes both will be back when the Raiders host the Jaguars on Nov. 2, along with star defensive end Maxx Crosby, who left Sunday’s game with knee and back injuries.
“Brock should be ready to go,” Carroll said of Bowers, who has missed three games. “Jakobi was close (after working out pregame). He should be ready to go. Gives us a chance to get Maxx, too.”
