Star Trek Needs To Save Its First Oscar-Winning Best Actress
Posted November 2, 2025
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy needs to save Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh after Star Trek: Section 31. Yeoh won the Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once before becoming the first Academy Award-winning actress to lead a
Star Trek movie.
Star Trek's first made-for-Paramount+ streaming movie, Star Trek: Section 31 picked up from Emperor Philippa Georgiou's (Michelle Yeoh) time travel in Star Trek: Discovery season 3. Georgiou emerged in
Star Trek's early 24th century "lost era" as the owner of the intergalactic nightclub, the Barram.
Section 31 recruited Emperor Georgiou to stave off an invasion by the Mirror Universe led by San (James Hiroyuki Liao), Philippa's former lover from the alternate reality. Georgiou's win nabbed her a spot in Starfleet's secret black ops team at the end of
Star Trek: Section 31.
Star Trek Needs To Save Michelle Yeoh & Emperor Georgiou From Section 31
Star Trek: Section 31 did respectable streaming numbers, but was trashed by critics and
Star Trek fans. Worse, there won't be a sequel to Star Trek: Section 31. Paramount Skydance's new management has no interest in more Star Trek streaming movies.
Star Trek: Section 31
's general failure and fate strands Emperor Georgiou in a time period of Star Trek that leaves her disconnected from the rest of the franchise. Section 31 is set 40 years before the start of
Star Trek: The Next Generation and over 60 years after Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Worse, no more Star Trek: Section 31 is a waste of Michelle Yeoh. The Oscar winner was a casting coup by
Star Trek: Discovery, and her Best Actress trophy puts her in exalted company among Star Trek actors.
Tragically, Michelle Yeoh and Emperor Georgiou are now stuck with no direct way to continue in
Star Trek.
Tragically, Michelle Yeoh and Emperor Georgiou are now stuck with no direct way to continue in Star Trek since there's no interest in making more Section 31 movies or projects.
Emperor Georgiou Has To Return In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy To Save Michelle Yeoh
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is currently the only way to save Michelle Yeoh and Emperor Georgiou from their
Star Trek: Section 31-imposed limbo. Unfortunately, Star Trek: Discovery season 3 established that Georgiou will die if she time-travels again.
Yet Michelle Yeoh is far too valuable and prestigious for
Star Trek to leave in a lurch because of Star Trek: Section 31. Yeoh and Georgiou need to be rescued from the dead-end Section 31 left them in.
Bringing back Michelle Yeoh would require waving away or curing Philippa Georgiou's fatal illness, but
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's 32nd century science can easily provide that deus ex machina, and return the Emperor to the 32nd century.
Michelle Yeoh making a comeback in
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy would allow her to share scenes with her fellow Best Actress Academy Award-winner, Holly Hunter, who plays Starfleet Academy's Chancellor, Captain Nahla Ake.
Just imagine Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
pitting Michelle Yeoh's Emperor Georgiou against Holly Hunter's Captain Ake. This, alone, is worth the effort of saving Michelle Yeoh from the sad fate Star Trek: Section 31 left her in.
