Seahawks Release Veteran Fan Favorite to Add Younger Cornerback Through Waivers
The Seattle Seahawks, like every team across the NFL, trimmed their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean they are done making moves. In fact, the team was forced into making another roster move on Wednesday after they ended up successfully claiming a player off waivers.
Roster cuts are always tough, but rosters aren’t ever truly finalized in the NFL, thanks to the number of injuries that pop up on a weekly basis. Case in point, veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin initially believed he made the Seahawks’ roster on Tuesday, but on Wednesday, he quickly found out that wasn’t the case.
Seahawks Release Shaquill Griffin After Claiming Derion Kendrick
Griffin initially broke into the league with the Seahawks as a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and he quickly earned a starting role in their secondary. Griffin would spend the first four years of his career in Seattle, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 when he racked up 65 tackles and 13 pass deflections in 14 games of action.
After the 2020 season, Griffin signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, but he struggled to stay healthy, and even when he was on the field, his play wasn’t particularly good. He got released after two seasons with them, and since then, he’s spent the 2023 campaign with the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers, before latching on with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.
Griffin returned to the Seahawks this offseason and was competing for a depth spot in their secondary. While he did end up earning a roster spot, he was quickly cut in order to make room for Derion Kendrick, who the team claimed after he got released by their NFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Rams.
“Team also released CB Shaquill Griffin to make room for CB Derion Kendrick, who was awarded to Seattle via waiver claim (Derion was waived by the Rams),” Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reported in a post on X.

Somebody had to get shown the exit door after Seattle claimed Kendrick, and that ended up being Griffin. Kendrick, a sixth-round pick of the Rams from the 2022 NFL Draft, started 12 games for them in 2023, but he missed the entire 2024 campaign due to a torn ACL. While he failed to make Los Angeles’ roster, he will be staying in the NFC West after the Seahawks scooped him up.
Griffin also won’t have to go far to find his new home in the NFL, as he was quickly picked back up by Seattle as a practice squad player. Having Griffin and Kendrick as extra layers of depth at cornerback is a big win for the Seahawks, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of them play meaningful snaps for the team in 2025. Now, the team will turn its attention towards Week 1, as it will kick off the new season against the San Francisco 49ers.
Vikings’ Jalen Nailor Faces Demotion but Refuses to Fold: “One Chance Is All I Need”
The NFL is unforgiving, and few players know that better than Minnesota Vikings wideout Jalen Nailor. Once hailed as a potential breakout weapon in the passing game, Nailor now finds himself staring down the harsh reality of a demotion. The odds of him producing a stat-sheet explosion this season are slim to none, at least in the eyes of analysts and critics. But if you listen to Nailor, he isn’t ready to let go of his dream — not even close.
For Nailor, the challenge isn’t just about reclaiming his role; it’s about silencing every doubt cast his way. The Vikings’ wide receiver room has grown crowded, with rookies emerging and veterans maintaining their grip on starting spots. Nailor, once penciled in as a sleeper pick to watch, has been pushed down the depth chart. The situation is grim, but instead of sulking, Nailor is choosing defiance. His message is clear: give him one chance, and he’ll make it count.
Teammates and coaches alike have taken notice of his resilience. In practice, Nailor has shown flashes of the speed and playmaking ability that once had fans buzzing. Still, critics remain skeptical, noting how tough it is for a player in his position to break through.
And then came the words that lit up social media:
“I KNOW THE ODDS AREN’T IN MY FAVOR… BUT ALL I NEED IS ONE CHANCE TO PROVE EVERYONE WRONG.” — Jalen Nailor
The quote captures exactly who Nailor is right now — an underdog with nothing to lose and everything to prove. It’s a reminder that in the NFL, fortunes can change in an instant. One key play, one spectacular catch, could swing the narrative completely.
Fans in Minnesota are divided. Some see Nailor as yesterday’s promise fading into the background, while others believe he has the grit to claw his way back into relevance. On social media, supporters rally behind his underdog spirit, calling him “the dark horse no one should sleep on.”
For the Vikings, Nailor’s story reflects a larger truth about the NFL: it’s not always the most talented players who thrive, but the ones who refuse to quit. Whether Nailor becomes a comeback story or just another “what if” will depend on whether his chance arrives — and whether he’s truly ready to seize it.
