Red Sox’s Alex Cora Gives Concerning Wilyer Abreu Injury Update
Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu said following Sunday’s loss to the Miami Marlins that his calf injury wasn’t serious and he should be back for the team’s series against the New York Yankees beginning on Thursday.
Manager Alex Cora reiterated that the 2024 Gold Glove award winner was being considered day-to-day but wasn’t yet cleared of a potential stint on the injured list.
“Alex Cora says Wilyer Abreu is feeling better today but they’re still taking it day by day and he isn’t out of the woods for an IL stint,” Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald posted on Bluesky.
If Abreu were to miss the series against the Yankees and be placed on the IL, it would be devastating.
