Pittsburgh Steelers sign physical former Ravens safety
The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed safety Chuck Clark, the team announced on Wednesday. Clark, who was released by the Steelers on Tuesday, was simply cut for a procedural move and is coming back.
Clark is coming off two back-to-back seasons with serious injuries. He missed all of 2023 with a torn ACL, and returned for the 2024 season, but it was ended early by a torn pectoral muscle.
Clark started 12 games for the Jets with 69 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass deflections. His most productive years came with the Ravens, where he was a starter from 2019 to 2022.
He will be the team’s top backup at strong and free safety if either of Juan Thornhill or DeShon Elliott went down with an injury.
A teammate of Malik Harrison, Patrick Queen, and DeShon Elliott, Clark already has chemistry with some of the players on the Steelers’ roster from his time with the Ravens, continuing a trend for Pittsburgh in recent years.
A Philadelphia native, Clark was a sixth-round pick by the Ravens out of Virginia Tech. Clark tried out for the Steelers in July and signed during the middle of training camp, entrenching himself as the team’s top backup at both spots.
