Nick Saban asked if he’d ever run a Kadyn Proctor screen, raves about Ryan Grubb
In a game of many superlatives, one stood over all others.
During Alabama’s 24-21 win at Georgia in Athens, offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor lived every big man’s dream.
The 366-behemoth went into motion, caught a lateral from quarterback Ty Simpson and rumbled to the 2-yard-line for a near-touchdown.
Nick Saban, who addressed the media during a Monday Morning Quarterback gathering, was asked his thoughts on the play, and if the former Alabama coach would have ever used a play like that.
“We never had any of those tackle-eligible plays in our playbook,” Saban told the gathered media. “Proctor, for his size, is as athletic as anyone you’re ever going to find.
Lions still waiting to know edge rusher’s status; starting OG good to go
Hang on for another day, Detroit Lions fans.
The team is still waiting to learn Marcus Davenport’s status. Dan Campbell said the veteran edge rusher continues to go through medical testing, and they should know more by the end of the week. Davenport did not practice on Thursday, and his availability remains in limbo for Monday Night Football in Baltimore.
Davenport suffered an ankle injury, but then returned against the Chicago Bears. He notched his first sack of the season after coming, and happened to hurt his shoulder while taking down Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
“Davenport, we won’t know until the end of the week,” Campbell said. “We’re still getting tests and doctors looking at stuff.”
If Davenport is unable to go, expect to see a hefty dose of Al-Quadin Muhammad on the other side of Aidan Hutchinson. Muhammad saw his defensive usage from seven snaps in Week 1 to 36 reps in the blowout against the Bears last Sunday. He notched his first sack of the season, adding three pressures and four tackles in the process.
During his weekly radio spot, Campbell said Muhammad is a significant role player for them, and he expects his role to continue to grow.
“He’s crafty. He’s strong. He’s got some explosiveness, and he plays hard,” Campbell told 97.1 The Ticket. “God, he plays hard. I mean, there was a number of plays -- I can think of three right now -- where he is running out of the stack. He’s running out of -- ball is thrown, screen and he is running to try to get the ball or making a tackle.
“And it’s that kind of effort with what he’s got ability-wise that gives you a chance. He’s been big for us, and he’s going to get more of a role. He’s earned that.”
In the good news department, starting offensive guard Christian Mahogany is said to be fine. Mahogany appeared to get rolled up late in the game, but stayed out there. And despite some social media doctors raising concerns, the Lions don’t have any regarding his status in Baltimore.
Mahogany was spotted at Thursday’s practice, with a brace on his right leg.
