Lions Announce Big News as Detroit Season Nears
The Detroit Lions are in the heat of the preseason and less than a month away from the start of the 2025-26 season, and excitement is at a fever pitch. After all of the talk during the offseason about this being the first year without offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, the time is finally here for coach Dan Campbell and company to deliver.
Now, the countdown is on for the Detroit Lions and their players as they near their opening game against the Green Bay Packers on September 7. That game is away, and the team’s first home game of the season is against the Chicago Bears on September 14.
Ahead of the new season, the Detroit Lions have unveiled something big for the city of Detroit. It’s a tradition of sorts and is officially here.
Detroit Lions Make Their Mark in the City
The time has finally come for the Detroit Lions to unveil this season’s huge wrap outside of Ford Field. After waiting in anticipation to find out how would be pictured on the wrap, the Lions have announced the either players on the panel and unveiled the final wrap.
The wrap is located outside of Gate A, which is the main concourse entrance of Ford Field, at Brush and Beacon streets.
This season’s wrap features eight players: Jahmyr Gibbs, Aidan Hutchinson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jared Goff, Penei Sewell, Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph and Sam LaPorta. The players are listed from left to right.
Last year’s mural was a bit different and had Gibbs, LaPorta, Hutchinson, St. Brown, Alim McNeill, David Montgomery, Alex Anzalone, Kalif Raymond and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
Dan Campbell Discusses the Lions’ Preseason
The Lions fell to the Miami Dolphins in their Saturday, August 16, preseason game. 24-17. One of the biggest questions of the preseason has been who will be Jared Goff’s backup quarterback. Right now, Kyle Allen seems to be in line to get that honor.
After the Lions’ preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Campbell said he was pleased with how Allen performed in that game.
“I thought Kyle (Allen) played really well. I was fired up. It was outstanding,” Campbell said about the Falcons matchup. “He wasn’t going to play until the second half and we get him in there. It’s kind of like, ‘Hey, you’re up.’ ‘I got to be ready to go now?'”
Campbell added, “He gets out there and immediately gives us a boost. Runs the offense, makes two huge throws on the first drive. I thought he was on point with the checks, the kills, motion landmarks, the whole thing. He operated the offense at a high level and made big throws. So, I was fired up.”
Allen also talked about his performance in that game, stating, “I do feel really good about it. It’s a high volume offense, so it’s taken a lot of work, a lot of studying, but I feel like I’m at a really good point with it and it’s at a good point where I feel in control.”
While it’s great to see some good plays out of Allen and the Detroit Lions’ other backup quarterback, Hendon Hooker, they’ll have to excel more if Goff, God forbid, gets injured this season.
