Kevin O'Connell can't stop singing the praises of Vikings undrafted rookie
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell's attention has been caught by undrafted rookie quarterback Max Brosmer, who has been making a case for him to be the third-string quarterback on the roster.
Brosmer saw significant playing time in the Vikings' 20-12 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 2 of preseason action. He finished the game completing 15 of 27 passes for 156 yards and one interception, but he almost completed a 20-9 comeback and was 13 yards away from setting up the potential game-tying touchdown and two-point conversion.
During his postgame press conference, O'Connell praised his young quarterback as he has been handling the pass rushes of the NFL and improving his game.
"What I love about Max is there were some breakdowns up front and maybe he couldn't progress and read through concepts, but he plays with very fast eyes. Very rarely puts the ball at harm's way when he's doing it which is an unique trait. I think it was that fourth down, you know dagger throw to Jeshaun (Jones). That's about as stacked against you as it can be. He throws that well before that pattern had declared. Just things like that that he's done and shows consistently is why he's getting the reps that he is."

Will Brosmer steal the QB3 job for the Minnesota Vikings?
Despite an ugly game against the Patriots, Sam Howell should still be able to make the final roster. Whether he is QB2 or QB3 is the biggest question.
Brosmer is realistically trying to beat out veteran Brett Rypien for the final spot at quarterback. Rypien bounced back from his weak Week 1 performance as he went seven of 11 for 83 yards in the Patriots contest.
There could be an argument made that Brosmer has been the most consistent quarterback of the two during the preseason. His performances haven't been perfect, but for a rookie who was undrafted and playing with a chip on his shoulder, he is making a serious argument to be on the roster for O'Connell to develop. Last week, Brosmer didn't get as much time to play as he did during the fourth quarter, but threw a touchdown pass.
If anything, Brosmer will at least make the practice squad. There doesn't seem to be a scenario where the Vikings let him go into free agency unless another team claims him off waivers or the practice squad.
Brosmer has shown that he has the tools to be a solid backup quarterback in the NFL. He handles pressures from the defensive line better than most rookie quarterbacks do in his position.
O'Connell seems to be impressed with his rookie quarterback, but can Brosmer close out the preseason the right way with another solid performance to seal his fate on the roster?
