If 'The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon' Season 2 Is Anything To Go By, Season 3 Will Be Devastating
Daryl and Carol’s Reunion Is Bittersweet
For the first half of the season, we got to see concurrent stories. Daryl was acclimating to his new life at The Nest and helping to ward off threats. Meanwhile, Carol tried to track down her best friend, worried something was wrong since she hadn’t heard from him in some time.
When they do finally reunite, it’s bittersweet because it comes with the death of a love, but also leads to the savior of a young boy. Carol brings Daryl to Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), who is lying on the ground dying. Just after she declares her love for him, she dies in Daryl’s arms. She begs him to take care of Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) as her dying wish, and Daryl is determined to oblige. She’s especially concerned about her nephew because Losang (Joel de la Fuente) brainwashed everyone in The Nest into believing that Laurent would not die or turn if he was bitten. He planned to hold a public ceremony to prove this to his followers, who had been growing increasingly skeptical.
That threat is out of the way, but there’s still Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou), Losang’s right-hand woman, who's even more deeply committed to the cause than he was. She manages to capture Anna (Lukerya Illyashenko), owner of the Demimonde, to force information out of her. But Anna purposely leads Jacinta and her people into a parking garage filled with walkers. Jacinta is bit, and she angrily locks Anna inside, causing her to be eaten alive. Later, Jacinta shoots herself in the head, unable to deal with the inevitability of her death, nor seeing Laurent escape to safety since she viewed him as humanity’s only hope.
Laurent Is En Route to The Commonwealth With Ash
While Jacinta is being led to the garage by Anna, Daryl and Carol have arranged for Laurent to fly back to The Commonwealth with Ash (Manish Dayal). Initially, the hope was that they would all go back together. But Ash delivered harrowing news: the plane could only hold three people. Someone had to stay behind. Carol was determined that it should be her, but Daryl argued that he knows people, he knows the city, and it makes more sense for him to stay. He would find his way back home somehow. Ash agreed.
Hallucinations, Goodbyes, and an Onward Journey
Off they went with Fallou and the others, introduced to a couple that could guide them through the 31.5-mile-long Channel Tunnel, a railway tunnel that runs under the English Channel and connects the UK and France. Fallou decides that he will stay in France, having fallen in love with Akila (Soraya Hachoumi). So, Daryl, Carol, and Codron head out with Angus (Matt Swift) and Fiona (Sarah McCardie) on foot through the dark, damp depths of “the Chunnel.”
Soon, however, strange things start happening. That’s because the bat guano in the tunnel has spawned a fungus that is causing psychoactive effects. Codron suddenly becomes violent and angry, thinking Daryl is a walker. He eventually runs off after they fight, and it’s unclear where he ends up and if he survives. Daryl keeps seeing visions of Isabelle and his grandfather, but manages to kill Angus and Fiona in self-defense while trying to maintain his faculties.
