Howie Roseman proves to be one step ahead after losing WR for the 2025 season
It was the news all Philadelphia Eagles fans were expecting as they have lost one of their wide receivers for the 2025 season.
Johnny Wilson got injured at practice on Tuesday with what appeared to be a leg injury as he was carted off the field. The Philadelphia Inquirer Eagles reporter Jeff McLean shared that sources told him that Wilson would undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and ankle.

It's a tough injury for Wilson who was carry a ton of momentum over the last two weeks at training camp. After a tough start to camp, Wilson exploded with three catches for 73 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals and didn't look back until getting hurt this week.
How one trade by Howie Roseman showed once again that he was ahead of the curve
The timing of Wilson's injury would seem like a bad time for the Eagles, but Roseman's trade of John Metchie III over the weekend looks more like a genius move. Philadelphia's wide receiver position was already so deep, but now Metchie will be able to fill in where Wilson was supposed to be as WR4 on the roster.
What also helps is the emergence of Darius Cooper, who might be having one of the best camps of any player on the Eagles. Cooper went from an unknown receiver to catching six passes for 82 yards and one touchdown against the Bengals. That led to him working out with the first-team offense and building chemistry with Jalen Hurts.
There are other options for the Eagles at receiver as well, with Cooper, Metchie, and Ainias Smith looking like wide receivers four through six on the roster. Terrace Marshall Jr. and Elijah Cooks could also disrupt the depth chart of the Eagles, but they seem more like practice squad options for Philly.
It's horrible to see Wilson injured and out as it looked like 2025 could end up being a breakout season. The Eagles will have to lean more on Metchie, Cooper, and Smith to step up. Major credit to Roseman, though, for bringing in Metchie and finding Cooper as an undrafted free agent to keep the Eagles at a high level on offense.
