Eagles' rookie report card from preseason finale win over Jets
t was not the easiest game for the Philadelphia Eagles, but they pulled off the 19-17 win over the New York Jets to end the preseason.
All eyes were on the rookies as they had one more shot to impress the coaching staff before rosters were finalized on Tuesday. It was an okay day for the players on the field with the defense playing well, but the offense was average at best.
Which rookies on the Eagles played the best and which ones failed to pass on their report cards?
Jihaad Campbell, LB (Grade: N/A)
Campbell got the night off as he looks to be poised to be either in the starting lineup or at least be in rotation with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Overall, it's been a great training camp and preseason for the first-round pick.
Andrew Mukuba, S (Grade: N/A)
Another guy getting the night off as Mukuba is recovering from injury. He could have used the game to win the safety job, but Sydney Brown looks to have the advantage since he's been available.
Ty Robinson, DT (Grade: C)
Robinson played 32 total snaps in the game, but did not record any stats in the game. He's still in good position to play a role in this defense this year as he looks like he could be special in the middle.
Mac McWilliams, CB (Grade: B)
McWilliams played the most snaps of any defender on the Eagles with 65 and he didn't disappoint. He finished with two tackles, one tackle for loss, and a pass deflection. Philly looks to want to lean more on him in this game as he could play a bigger role in the secondary with the CB2 concerns, and he answered the call in a big way.
Smael Mondon Jr., LB (Grade: B-)
Mondon had three tackles and a nice tackle for loss in the game. He has continued to improve from the start of training camp to the Jets game. Eagles fans might not see him often on defense, but he has a chance to play a big role on special teams.
Drew Kendall, OL (Grade: B)
Of the rookie offensive linemen, Kendall probably played the best of them all. He did well at center and held his own. With the center concerns behind Cam Jurgens, Kendall might be a good fit to be the backup this season.
Kyle McCord, QB (Grade: C-)
It was all on McCord as Dorian Thompson-Robinson did not play at all. McCord finished completing 15 of 35 passes for 136 yards and an interception while taking two sacks. There is a lot of development needed for McCord, but hey, he got the win, and that's all that matters.
Myles Hinton, OL (Grade: C)
Hinton had a mixed bag night on the field, as there were times when he was beaten off the line. There were also some moments where he showed that he can pull and make a block. He could still make the roster, but some time on the bench would be suitable for hi
Cameron Williams, OL (Grade: C)
Similar to Hinton, Williams had some good and bad moments in the game, but overall, in the preseason has been pretty good. He's another example of someone who could still make the 53-man roster and develop from the sidelines.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland, EDGE (Grade: B+)
The grade might be a bit of a stretch, but it certainly felt like Powell-Ryland had the best night of the rookies on the Eagles. He had a tackle, one sack, and a forced fumble in the game. It'll be interesting to see if it was enough for him to make the final roster, but after not posting a single stat all preseason, this feels like a big win for him.
