“(Tagovailoa) is going to take the snaps this week and he’s going to be our starter this week and my expectation is that we don’t throw 10 picks,” McDaniel told reporters at his Monday news conference.
Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa Finally Took Some Blame for His Horrible Play
It was another horrid week for the Miami Dolphins, perhaps one of the worst losses in franchise history. Playing against a Cleveland Browns team that’s considered one of the worst in the NFL, the Dolphins fell 31-6 and didn’t have anything going on either side of the football.
The offensive struggles have continued, with the quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throwing for just 100 yards on 23 attempts, including three interceptions. For the Dolphins to be the team they’re looking to be, Tagovailoa either can’t be the quarterback or has to be much better.
It seems like he finally understands that he’s part of the blame, and stated after the game that he’s not proud of where he is as a player.
“Definitely not happy, not proud of where I’m at with my play, with how I’ve gone about things this year,” Tagovailoa said, per NFL.com. “I know I got to be a lot better, and I’ve been better for the Miami Dolphins years past.
“But this isn’t years past. This is this year, right? And just trying to maneuver everything and trying to build a collection of guys to kind of bring along with me, and I got to kind of be able to multitask, if that makes sense, to be able to do that. And while doing that, kind of continue to get the whatever it was last year and the years prior for myself to get going again and get in that flow.”
Can Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa Find Past Form?
Everybody remembers Tagovailoa’s past few years as an above-average quarterback. There were still questions about him and the Miami Dolphins, but in 2023, he threw for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Not that it’s easy for Tagovailoa to get back to that; otherwise, the Dolphins wouldn’t be playing this way, nor would he, but he has the talent in him to be above average.
“When you go to a game you fully know that you have the capability to win and get handed a very, very humbling loss that there’s no ifs, ands or buts about, guys need to be professionals,” McDaniel said. “Guys need to step up to the plate, and every person on our team, if you’re saying ‘It’s not me,’ it’s you. That’s what I told the team. That’s what I have to subscribe to, and we will be diligent in both our cleanup of this game and the opponent for next week because you’re just not going to win games — and our team, we say we want to win games, so we have to do the things necessary to win games. Until that happens, we will lose games.”
Dolphins’ Future Outlook
Regarding what his future looks like, some Miami Dolphins fans have called upon him to be benched long-term. He was benched in the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Browns, and rightfully so.
However, according to head coach Mike McDaniel, it sounds like the Dolphins will continue to play him.
