Derrick White and the Curbside Care Project – When an NBA Star Steps Off the Court to Care for Everyday Lives
In professional sports, impact is often measured in points, assists, and championships. Yet some players quietly redefine greatness by investing their time and heart into the communities that cheer them on. Boston Celtics guard
The Curbside Care initiative was created to address gaps in postpartum and maternal health care, particularly for families facing economic hardship. Each week, a dedicated medical team travels directly to patients’ homes to provide lactation support, screen for postpartum depression, assess material needs, and connect families with ongoing health resources. By meeting mothers where they live, the program reduces barriers that often prevent access to early and essential care.
White’s involvement goes far beyond a ceremonial appearance. He has personally joined Curbside Care visits, delivering infant car seats, strollers, and newborn supply kits to families who might otherwise go without. In just its first year, the program has reached more than
Team representatives note that White has fully embraced the mission, describing him as a partner who listens, learns, and acts with genuine compassion. His dedication highlights a deeper truth: professional athletes can use their fame not only to inspire on the court but also to create tangible, lasting change off it.
In a sport where highlight reels dominate headlines, Derrick White’s quiet commitment to maternal and infant health reminds fans that the most meaningful victories sometimes happen far from the arena. His work with Curbside Care is a testament to the idea that true legacy is built through service, kindness, and the lives we choose to uplift.

There were a total of 22 winners this offseason. Nine times, an offensive player won the award, which means that on 13 occasions, a defensive player was the one recognized for outstanding performance.
Of the nine days an offensive player took home the award, only two repeat winners emerged — center Aaron Brewer and quarterback Tua Tagoavailoa. We had three repeat winners on the defensive side of the football, with EDGE rushers Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson being two of those players, and cornerback Storm Duck rounding out the repeat winners club.
No player won the award three times.
Interestingly enough, of the six captains named by the Dolphins yesterday, only one player — fullback Alec Ingold — didn’t win an orange jersey award this summer, although Ingold has dealt with some injuries which limited his practice participation this offseason.
After suffering a disappointing season last year — a year in which the Dolphins missed the playoffs for the first time during head coach Mike McDaniel’s tenure — the buzz around Miami is trending in a negative direction currently. Plenty of national media talking heads are predicting a disastrous season for the club from South Florida. However, if these Orange Jersey Award winning players have their say, the Dolphins could prove to be a pleasant surprise in the National Football League landscape when the action kicks off this week.
