Bill Belichick Breaks Silence on Banning Patriots Scouts From UNC’s Facility With Petty Message - NewsBreak
If anyone needed more confirmation that the divorce between Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots was final, then listen to him closely.
Belichick, who is in his first season as a head coach in college football at North Carolina, has banned Patriots scouts from being around North Carolina’s football facility. When asked about it on Saturday, September 6, Belichick gave what fans have come to know as a classic Belichick-type response.
What Did Bill Belichick Say About Patriots Scouts?
The new Tar Heels coach had just posted his first victory with the team, a 20-3 road win against Charlotte. Belichick’s arrival on the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, campus has received significant attention throughout college football.
After the game, Belichick was asked not only about his team’s play but also about the tiff with the Patriots. Ari Meirov, who covers the NFL for The 33rd Team, posted a video of Belichick’s curt response to the Patriots’ scouts matter.
“It’s clear I’m not welcome there at their facility,” Belichick said. “So they’re not welcome at ours. It’s pretty simple.”
His response began getting viral attention on social media on Saturday night. This isn’t going to cool down the hard feelings between him and New England one bit.
The longtime marriage between Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft became strained near the end of Belichick’s tenure. However, Belichick brought a massive amount of success to the New England franchise, including six Super Bowl rings. He led the team to nine AFC Championship victories out of 13 appearances.
How Has Belichick Made Headlines at North Carolina?
Patriots fans might give a bunch of credit to Belichick’s No. 1 quarterback, Tom Brady, for those championship runs. Now, Belichick faces the challenge of building success at the college level.
Belichick has been making headlines not only on the field but off the field as well. His relationship with Jordan Hudson has been getting as much attention as his foray into college football. Hudson was even spotted on the sidelines during North Carolina’s home opener, which ended up in a 48-14 drubbing at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs.
Meanwhile, the Patriots open their 2025 NFL season on Sunday, September 7, with a home game at Gillette Stadium against the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s also the first game with Mike Vrabel as the Patriots’ head coach, taking over for Jerod Mayo.
Braves claim $4M reliever off waivers from Dodgers — brother of Atlanta's most-hated rival
The Atlanta Braves are just trying to make it to the end of the regular season after the worst one they have had in several years. The Braves are expected to make numerous changes to the roster next season, and some moves are already underway with waiver additions. Additionally, manager Brian Snitker is expected to retire at the end of the season.
“Because of that consistent recent success, Snit would normally be afforded a ‘mulligan’ year—even though going from the second-best preseason World Series odds to possibly the third-best odds of winning the draft lottery is a pretty serious mulligan,” Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller wrote. “At 69, though, he's already the oldest manager in the National League by a several-year margin and was likely to retire at the end of this season, which is the last one in his current contract.”
The Braves are still adding to the team this season, focusing mostly on pitching, as Atlanta has struggled to keep players healthy. On Sunday, they claimed Alexis Diaz off waivers.
“The Braves have claimed Alexis Diaz off waivers from the Dodgers, according to David O’Brien of The Athletic. Atlanta has space available on its 40-man roster, so no corresponding move is necessary to bring Diaz into the organization,” MLBtraderumors.com’s Nick Deeds wrote.
Diaz was just released by the defending World Series Champion Dodgers earlier in the week.
“The Dodgers announced that they have selected the contract of catcher Ben Rortvedt, a move that was previously reported. In corresponding moves, they optioned infielder Alex Freeland and designated right-hander Alexis Díaz for assignment,” MLBtraderumors.com’s Darragh McDonald wrote.
